ABOUT THE SHOW
A young woman's quest to complete her first album before her father passes becomes a poetic journey through the complex terrains of womanHOOD (including mountains, peaks and valleys -- complete with flood and drought.)
Birth of Power U was written and performed by the critically acclaimed, wildly popular and outrageously talented spoken word artist and vocalist Queen GodIs. developed with and directed by Tamilla Woodard. In Birth of Power U, Queen GodIs navigates a spiritually fit and lyrically hip yet humble path through her 'hood' creating a fresh trail of footprints that are definitely worth noticing and following. Hip Hop, theater, spoken word and song make Birth of Power U a multi-medium roadmap that is every weary traveler's dream. Raw and empowering, this new work reminds us that life, like womanHOOD and debut albums, is worth the scenic route.

ABOUT QUEEN
Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Queen God-Is one of the most gifted, lyrically insightful, thought provoking, and dynamic spoken word artists of our time. Her gifts however, extend way beyond the realm of poetry. Her debut album, Power U! , highlights Queen as co-producer, budding engineer, MC, and singer who hooks up both lead and background vocals with her awe-inspiring sense of melody and harmony. Her work incorporates Hip Hop, soul, rock and even some theater- bringing forth a powerfully unique energy that wows crowds of every demographic. An entertainer, seeker and conveyor of truth, her socially conscientious yet accessible lyrics (from the hood to the burbs, projects to penthouse) invoke chills and undeniably leave you changed. Touching an array of audiences, GodIs showcases at venues that range from public schools and cozy cafes, to huge concert and university lecture halls both nationally and abroad. She has and continues to grace the stage with some of the top artists of our lifetime. Even more significantly, she dedicates a great portion of her time empowering youth all over the world with her work. In 2001, Queen was hand selected to appear as feature performance poet on part of Les Nubians' (Afro-European singing duo) international tour route. Her work also appears on two tracks on the album: Les Nubians Presents Echoes: Chapter One Nubian Voyager - released in the Fall of 2005. Rave reviews inspired the label to re-release this record as a poetry book with CD in the summer of 2006.
